Letters and reminiscences of a Waterloo hero : letter from Donald Mackenzie, to his nephew Alexander Mackenzie, Guelph, in 1848 from Corfu, as re-published in the Guelph Mercury, May 27, 1892. 1892.

Donald Mackenzie was the librarian of the Garrison Library at Corfu at the time of his death, having been born in the Parish of Cawdor, Nairn. He enlisted in the Army in 1814 at Aberdeen. The series of letters are full of interesting anecdotes and facts which have never before been given to the public.

Donald G. MacKenzie was born in Dingwall, Scotland, in 1887. He was bonded by his father to become a mechanical engineer, but MacKenzie used his bond money to buy a ticket to New York, where he arrived in December 1904. In the following weeks, MacKenzie moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he worked for six months at the Michigan Lumber Company.
